David Bird – ‘Dee Richards’ Pride Award Winner

David Bird – ‘Dee Richards’ Pride Award Winner

David Bird typifies everything a Cleaning Operative should be: he is dedicated, hard-working and has an incredibly positive attitude.

David Bird joined we clean in April 2014, initially only working a couple of hours on a morning. He has now worked his way up to 3 different sites as a Cleaning Operative.

Firstly, at the Headquarters of the West Bromwich Building Society on a morning, he then goes onto their Tipton branch, before returning to the Headquarters where he porters all afternoon and then finishes at Higgs and Sons in Brierley Hill on an evening. Whilst his work days are long, the pride he gets from working hard and providing a quality service means that he doesn’t look at his Cleaning Operative role as a chore, instead, he enjoys his working days!

Lynn Gill, Black Country Contract Manager, who oversees where David work’s commented “David just gets the job done; he’s never late and always has a smile on his face, even at the end of the day! He works really hard and it’s fantastic to see him being rewarded!”

David managed to find a couple of minutes out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions:

What’s your role within the company?

David hard at work.

I work as a Cleaning Operative at West Bromwich Building Society’s Head Office, their Tipton branch and then at Higgs and Sons, mainly cleaning the reception and restaurant area, taking out all the bins and every month I machine the restaurant floor.

How long have you been at the company?

I’ve been with we clean for 3 years.

When does your working day start?

6-8 on a morning and then I do an afternoon portering job which is 12-3.

What’s your favourite thing about working for we clean?

I enjoy interacting with all sorts of different people throughout my working day, it’s nice when people are friendly and stop by and have a chat.

Have you got any hobbies outside of work?

I like a bit of cycling and swimming if I get the chance, or just relaxing and watching Soccer Saturday.

What does the award mean to you?

Yeah, it’s fantastic, feels like you’ve really achieved something within the company, gives you that extra kick to do more and do better. It’s a great place to work and a great company to work for.
