We are incredibly proud to announce that we clean has been awarded the RoSPA Gold Medal for Health & Safety, following five consecutive years of achieving the prestigious RoSPA Gold Award.

The achievement marks an important milestone for our business. While receiving a Gold Award is recognition of a high standard of occupational health and safety management, the Gold Medal recognises the consistency required to maintain that standard year after year.

For us, however, the significance goes far beyond an award.

Health & Safety at the heart of we clean

Health & Safety has always been a fundamental part of how we operate at we clean. With more than 700 frontline cleaning operatives working across a diverse range of client environments, our responsibility to protect our people, our clients and everyone who interacts with our services is something we take extremely seriously.

Our internal we clean SAFE! Management System places safe working practices at the heart of our day-to-day operations. It provides the framework for our policies, procedures, risk assessments, training, monitoring and continuous improvement, helping to ensure that our teams have the knowledge, equipment and support they need to work safely.

Importantly, we don’t see Health & Safety as a separate function or simply a compliance requirement. It is part of our culture.

From our frontline cleaning teams and Contract Managers through to our senior leadership team, everyone has a role to play in identifying risks, following safe systems of work and continually looking for ways to improve.

Five consecutive years of Gold

The RoSPA Awards are widely recognised as a benchmark for excellence in workplace Health & Safety, with the assessment process requiring organisations to demonstrate effective management systems, strong risk control and a positive safety culture.

The Gold Medal is awarded to organisations that achieve five consecutive Gold Awards, making this year’s recognition particularly significant for we clean.

Our 2026 achievement follows Gold Awards in each of the previous five years and provides independent recognition of the consistency and commitment that goes into maintaining our Health & Safety standards.

The 2026 RoSPA Awards are also particularly significant as the programme celebrates its 70th anniversary, with around 2,000 entries from organisations across 60 countries.

Driving our Health & Safety culture

The ongoing development of our Health & Safety approach is headed up by Amanda Headland, Office & ISO Administrator, and David Holmes-McClure, Health & Safety Manager.

Together, they play a key role in ensuring our systems remain robust, relevant and continually evolving. From monitoring performance and maintaining our management systems to preparing for external assessments and ensuring lessons are embedded across the business, their work helps turn our commitment to Health & Safety into everyday practice.

The RoSPA submission itself requires detailed evidence of an organisation’s approach to Health & Safety, including areas such as accident statistics, training, qualifications, risk management and the effectiveness of its wider Health & Safety strategy.

For Amanda and David, the process is therefore about much more than preparing an award submission. It provides an opportunity to benchmark our existing approach, identify areas for improvement and ensure we continue to raise our own standards.

David Holmes-McClure, we clean Health & Safety Manager, said:

Five consecutive Gold Awards demonstrate that Health & Safety isn’t something we focus on for an assessment or an annual award… it is embedded into the way we operate every day.

“Our we clean system gives us the framework to manage risk, but it is our people who make the culture work. From our cleaning operatives and Contract Managers through to our senior team, everyone has a responsibility to work safely and to speak up when something can be improved.

“We are constantly looking at how we can evolve our systems, improve training and learn from experience. The Gold Medal is recognition of that continued effort, and I’m incredibly proud of Amanda, our wider management team and, most importantly, all of our frontline colleagues who help make Health & Safety such an important part of we clean.”

More than an award

As an organisation we operate in a constantly changing environment, with our teams working across offices, schools, museums, leisure facilities, commercial properties and other specialist environments. Every site brings its own challenges and risks, which means our approach to Health & Safety must continue to evolve alongside our business.

That means investing in training, reviewing our procedures, embracing technology, listening to our people and learning from incidents and near misses.

Ultimately, the most important measure of our Health & Safety culture isn’t an award on the wall. It is ensuring that every member of our team can finish their working day and return home safely.

The RoSPA Gold Medal is recognition of five consecutive years of achieving the highest standard, but our commitment to Health & Safety remains steadfast each working hour.
