A SHINING EXAMPLE @ GREAT BARR ACADEMY
During the recent February Half-Term school holiday, our Specialist Cleaning Division carried out a complete floor restoration of the parquet flooring at the Birmingham based Great Barr Academy. 
Parquet flooring is the name given to a type of flooring made from small blocks or strips of wood, which are laid to create a regular and geometric pattern. The wooden flooring at this Great Barr School dates back to the 1950’s and was in need of a renovation, and the School placed their trust in the Specialist Cleaning Division at we clean to bring their floor back to life!
The Specialist Cleaning Division, headed up by Director’s Tim Byng and Steve Rawlings use the latest cleaning technologies and machinery available, which together with their 30 years’ worth of Cleaning Industry experience ensures that their team can maintain and restore an array of floor surfaces including:
- Marble, terrazzo and other stone floors
- A range of Vinyl flooring coverings
- Wooden floors including Parquet and Granwood flooring
The floor restoration at Great Barr Academy involved 4 Cleaning Technicians from the we clean Specialist Team who worked early mornings to minimise disruption to the School’s own in-house maintenance team. 
The team initially gave the floor a complete sand down using Belt Sanders, ensuring they removed all existing varnish and white lines. Before making sure the floor was as level as possible and repairing any broken sections. Then, using powerful Trio Sanders with HEPA filtration attachments the team closed the wood grain, with any affected area’s in the working environment given a dust down. Finally, an environmentally friendly water-based lacquer was used to offer long-standing protection.
